What is everyone's viewpoint on the Gifts mentioned in 1 Corinthians 12 and 14?

Do you get these after we get the Spirit or are these signs that we received the Spirit?

The one that is mentioned a few other times in the Bible is tongues. Is tongues the same throughout the New Testament or different in the gospels, Acts, and the epistles?

I've heard lots of things on this and I'd be interested in everyone's response.

I'm not sure what to think about the gifts of the spirit. I see alot of people claiming to have them, but i have yet to see anyone truely prophecy, or really healed. I think most of the preachers talking about them today are selling something. Which we all know is a big no no where God is concerned.

Hi,
While I do understand that many so-called preachers claim to have and use various gifts, that they clearly do not have, God through Paul teaches us that these gifts are given by the Holy Spirit for the profit of all. There is no mention in scripture that these gifts have ceased, on the contrary, Paul urges us to desire the prophetic gift. In scripture it is also mentioned that many false teachers and false prophets will come to "fleece the flock", and we can easily see that today in money for miracles, prosperity and word of faith circles. But we cannot judge, if gifts are for today or not, by abuses. We must compare all things by the word of God, and not by experience or intellect alone.
God bless you,
Dan
