The Sabbath.....another good discussion
The problem with should we or should we not work on the Sabbath is no one really knows what day the Sabbath REALLY fell on. If I remember correctly, (which I might not) WE call the Sabbath Sunday.....but in all reality......that might not really be the real Sabbath. IT could possibly be Saturday..... When our Pastor taught about this subject one thing he did make clear....ONE day out of the week should be your sabbath. And on this day....Whatever day it might be..... you should be dwelling on God or Christ or Godly things....prayer........helping others......giving yourself........etc.
Some people do have to work on Sundays....so their Sabbath might be a Tuesday......etc. As long as AT LEAST one day is dedicated to God (At least) I guess if I was a fire-man and my job was to put out fires, I couldnt tell the person whose house was on fire..."Sorry, its the Sabbath, Ill get back with you tomarrow...." And if it was my house I would probably let it burn.....think NEW HOUSE SILLY.....hahahahha just kidding. Yes if my house was on fire, I would put it out.... |

Yes it is, a lot of different ideas about the Sabbath!

That's true this is where all the arguement comes from. Because I go to service on a Sunday I am a sinner. That's funny really because we all are sinners saved by grace. To say that we don't sin is not being very honest with ourselves, or to whom we leave this impression.
Not a day goes that i don't praise God & worship Him.

Makes a good point, & it's funny.
God Bless you Jeannie, |

Hi Nobby,
I believe the sabbath was given to man so he could have one day off from working the works of the old law.
They had to do so many things to keep themselves clean and pure, and so many rituals had to be followed. I suppose it was very time consuming. So God granted them a day of rest from trying to earn their righteousness themselves according to the law.
I believe that when God sent his new law of Love through Jesus, that this law contains within itself the sabbath.
We no longer have to perform works of the old law by keeping all the ordinances to save ourselves from our unrighteousness.
God has granted us that rest of working out our own salvation by giving us Jesus Christ his son. The work has already been done when Jesus died on the cross. And through faith in his work for us are we saved by the grace of God.
If God is with us and we are with God then the only work that remains is the work of God.
God is Love, Therefore our work is always work that is done in the spirit of that Love.
So in one aspect our own work for our own salvation has ceased and we enter into that rest, that sabbath that is promised to those who believe.
And yet in another aspect God's work is never done, because there is no end to the work of loving one another.
But this burden is oh so much lighter and easier to bear than the burden of trying to justify ourselves by the old law.
So in my opinion..
Everyday is a sabbath day because we rest in the Love of God, and yet everyday is a work day for the Lord as long as love is needed in the world.
just thinkin......
Peace

Lone, the law could never save anyway.
It took the sacrifice of Jesus Christ on the cross, to save anyone. |

the sabbath-- whenever yours is--is a day of rest. i think the rest from physical work was to give us a chance to refresh our bodies so they would be ready for the next 6 days.
but....it was also a time without distractions--a time when we could concentrate on the Lord-- be still and know that I Am God--a chance to refresh our spirits.
doing the Lord's work is great, but it's still work--and it can distract us from Him-- we need a sabbath time with Him. |

Hi Shepreach, you are working to hard, I never get to read your posts anymore, I miss you girl!! Glad to see your still with us.
I just got back on here a few days ago. I had a 3 week fight with the flu & Pneumonia in my left lung.
But I'm much better now.
I get so tired of the arguing which day the Sabbath is.
There are just people that have to work on the days that most Christians set aside for worship. Usually Sunday or Saturday.
Shucks ever time you flip a light switch your depending on someone that has to work that day. If you go to a resterant, someone is working, your hospitals, should the doctors & nurses & all the help just drop everthing & go to Sabbath Service at the same time? Just some thoughts.
Lovya sis,

i'm really glad you are better. i pray for you every day.
it's not that i'm not here. it's that i don't have time to get in long discussions anymore, so something really has to catch my attention before i comment. the sabbath is one of those things. i agree with you 100%. somebody is always working.
we expect God to work for us 24/7/365. i guess we forget that he rested after creation. i know---it's not the same as our rest, but He did rest.
luv you too. and really miss the discussions. miss all of you'uns to tell the truth. |

Shereach something you said caught my eye...
i guess we forget that he rested after creation.
Gen 5:1 This [is] the book of the generations of Adam. In the day that God created man, in the likeness of God made he him;
Psalm 102:18 This shall be written for the generation to come: and the people which shall be created shall praise the LORD.
2Cr 5:17 Therefore if any man [be] in Christ, [he is] a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.
So this says to me that when God finished creating man. God rested.
And since that time we have been working our butts off to enter into that rest that is already there...
I see why Solomon says all is vanity. All the work we do to enter that rest is in vain. It's already been done since the foundation of the world...All we have to do is believe and say THANK YOU LORD!!
Our work is to Praise the Lord, To Love God, and to Love our neighbor.
Everything else is work on the sabbath. We can't earn salvation, it's already been paid for.....long time ago...........
Psalm 102:18 This shall be written for the generation to come: and the people which shall be created shall praise the LORD.
What generation?
Gen 5:1 This [is] the book of the generations of Adam. In the day that God created man, in the likeness of God made he him;
The generation of mankind!!!
Mankind never stops breaking the sabbath. Man is in the sabbath day. We keep on working.....
Time to retire and take a break, God has already blessed us with rest. Enjoy it and PRAISE GOD!!!
The sabbath day will be here until mankind is no more. all day, everyday, 24/7/365.....

For the saint, every day is the sabbath rest from striving to be justified by works. For others, no day can be rest, because they either strive to be justified by 'good' works, or ignore the gospel that appears to offer free salvation, but in fact demands everything. |
