| Why do most protestants worship on sunday? when they do not acknowledge the authority of the Catholic church. sunday service along with Easter, Christmas, and the use of the Cross were all instituted by the catholic church but are not reffered to in the bible. |

I have heard an answer for this but don't know the original source. Sorry.
The Jewish people celebrate their sabbath from sunset Fridays to sunset Saturdays. Christians argue that Jesus was resurrected on a Sunday, although I'm not certain how they work out their arithmetic.
In any case, I've been told, the tradition of Sunday sabbath began to celebrate the new covenant versus the old. Saturday is the last day of the week as we count it off on our hands. Sunday is the first day, symbolizing the new beginning of a life in Jesus.
But as I say, this is unconfirmed. Why?

| IM not sure when sunday service was introduced but i do know that it was the day of worship for the roman sun god. which most romans worshiped until emperor constantine began merging christian beliefs with the beliefs of the traditional roman religion. i do know that easter, christmas, and even the books in todays bible were decided at the council of Nicea in 325 A.D. before constantine was even baptised. |

| Could you show me in scripture what day was designated for worship? I've looked and the only thing I can find is descriptions of and admonitions to worship, nothing dictating the how or where or when to do so. |

What you do know is that these things were 'ratified' of sorts by the Nicean council. They were existant beliefs with early christians since the 1st century. The council served to 'formalize' that which was already accepted. |

God created all things in 6 days and he bleesed the seventh day (gen 2:3)
mark 16:9 when Jesus rose early on the first day of the week he appeared first to mary magdalene... And in the Good News Bible it is written "After Jesus rose from death early on Sunday, he appeared first to mary madalene..." When you look at a calender which day is the first day of the week and wich day is the seventh day of the week? If you look in a dictionary sunday is described as the first day of the week. So, if god blessed the seventh day then why would you worship on the first day?
Unless you accept the Catholic Churches authority there is no reason to worship on sunday. |

My daddy thinks the Sunday only thing was started during the Protestant Refamation because back then the Catholics were seen as counting what you did mattered for being saved. He says it's called salvation by works. He says Martin Luther put forth the idea of being saved by Grace, although Jesus or Paul originated it, one of the two.
Anyway, he says us protestants only started going once a week to say to the Catholics that mass 7 days a week or more was too much working. I gotta go.

I don't know that there is scripture to say which day. I always believed that the day of the week is not important, just that you rest on the seventh day (the sabbath) and keep it holy. If you work Thursday through Tuesday and have Wednesday off, you take that as your sabbath and keep it holy, worship, read your Bible, etc. I don't think the detail of which day is important to God, just that his word be followed. |

I think you may be on to something. I think God wants us to rest and be refreshed and very importantly, take some time out to build a relationship with Him.
When I was young, we went to my grandparents every Sunday for dinner. Why? Because that is when various members of the family had a day off from work (a day of rest) and this was a good way to honor our relationship with my Grandparents.
They have since passed on but I treasure the fact that we spent every Sunday nourishing our bond with them. They were loving, funny, intelligent people and I still miss them.
