hi nobby,
the scripture is john 2:1-11. it's the wedding feast at cana. i preached on it the other sunday and found something i hadn't seen before. 1. the 6 water jars are empty--just as we are before salvation. 2. the jars have a purpose--they're meant for the water for purification. 3. after they are filled with water, somewhere between dipping into the water and the steward's mouth the water changed--it became wine, a symbol of communion with Christ. 4. Jesus didn't fill the jars with water--the servants did. 5. only the servants knew where the wine came from.

sounds a lot like what happens to us when we decide to give our lives to Christ. He changes things on the inside and neither we nor those who watch us know when or where the changes come about. says something about judging others, don't ya think?

Thanks shepreach, You made some good points. I never thought much about the jars before, but I can see where you are right.

Yes a great change does come up on us when we are saved. Thoughs changes sometimes don't come all at once.

rev,
read the scripture verses, especially verse 6. the nrsv & the niv say these were stone water jars used for ceremonial washing by the jews. which reminds me...our hearts were changed from stone to flesh.

Hi Sheila,
I was scanning thru the threads, when I came across your thread about the six emty water jars. After they filled them Jesus turned the water to wine. I was just thinking we're born with a big emty jar, (our heart) that we try very hard to fill with things of this world! Then we meet Jesus Christ, He actually removes things of the world, & fill our jar with things of God. Very Happy

you're right! you know those jars were made of marble and held 30+ gallons of water--about the size of a hot water heater.

Hummmm....30+ x 6 = 180+ could have been up to 100 gallons of wine!

John 2:3,9 & 10 wrote:
John 2:3
The wine supply ran out during the festivities, so Jesus' mother spoke to him about the problem. "They have no more wine," she told him.

John 2:9
When the master of ceremonies tasted the water that was now wine, not knowing where it had come from (though, of course, the servants knew), he called the bridegroom over.

John 2:10
"Usually a host serves the best wine first," he said. "Then, when everyone is full and doesn't care, he brings out the less expensive wines. But you have kept the best until now!"

They thought the best wine had been saved until last! Very Happy

drunk in the Spirit--let's see--nothing outside the experience matters. this is true of just plain drunk too. there is a difference however.

drunk can make you paranoid. you don't care about anything but you and the things you do are usually hurtful to yourself or someone else. when it's over you have a hangover and often regret what you did.

drunk in the Spirit makes you happy and you want to share the experience with everyone. you don't care about anything but God and the things you do are helpful and kind. when it's over you have a feeling of peace and joy and are glad it happened.

On the topic of the miracle at Cana, I spent hours researching it this morning and came up with some interesting results. I don't have time right now, but if anyone is interested, I'd be glad to discuss it. Very Happy
