This is a subject that I've been fighting with for years. Well not dwelling because the bible isnt really clear on this subject but still I am puzzled with the fact that a lot of people just assume that Saul went to hell because of his last days......I, on the other hand have issues with that because of the part where Saul was an annointed one...he was called...etc. This really may have nothing to do with anything but I still think its possible that Saul did go to heaven even with the mistakes he made. What say you?

Hi Jeannie. My name is MoJo, one of the moderators. Welcome to the board. Very Happy Very Happy

I hate to start out with something that sounds like a reproach, Jeannie, because I don't mean it to be, but rather for edification. The question of who goes to heaven or hell, depending on what I think you mean by hell, is strictly God's domain and not something we can know. This is told to us by Paul in Romans.

Romans 10: 6: But the righteousness which is of faith speaketh on this wise, Say not in thine heart, Who shall ascend into heaven? (that is, to bring Christ down from above:)
7: Or, Who shall descend into the deep? (that is, to bring up Christ again from the dead.)

Only God knows the heart and decides who is saved. Knowing this, dwelling on these types of questions is unprofitable. Anything anybody could say would be strictly opinion and purely speculative.

Of course only God would know who is going and who is not going to heaven. My question about Saul does not really have an answer. It is more of a .......lets see.......a study of Gods grace. NO ONE knows whose going to heaven or hell except for God Himsef. Just like the whole "Baby going to heaven or hell post." that I read earlier. God says in the book of Romans He chooses whom He will Choose and deny whom He wants to deny. (Not in those exact words because my bible is not here....of course Im in a rush again.... Sometimes when we look at our old test. heros and non heros we wonder what God did with them. For example we could assume Moses is with the Lord.....we could assume Pharoh is not with the Lord. (Especially because God brings him up in the New Test.) But when it comes to Saul.....he did start out strong...and there is sooooo much theology that surrounds him and the Book of 1 Samuel and 2 Samuel. I just thought if someone brought up the question of babies going to heaven or hell.......I could bring up Saul.....MY BAD

Jeannie, I see some time has elapsed since you first posed this question so I'm not really sure if you're still around to read one more response.

Since you are asking for opinions, I will give you mine.
Two points to consider:
1.) Saul was a believer
2.) God never goes back on his word

Therefore, even though Saul disobeyed God and even though Saul took his own life (although he more than likely would have died anyway), I do not doubt that Saul went to heaven. I think he had some serious apologizing and explaining to do when he got there.
